Make a Difference in a Child's Life: Become a Volunteer Literacy Tutor

The Learning Disabilities Association of Nova Scotia is looking for adult volunteers to work one-on-one with students in grades Primary to 6, who are experiencing difficulty in reading and/or writing. We are offering an after-school program (two evenings per week: one hour per night) dedicated to helping children become competent independent through the experience of good books and opportunities for good writing. This is a rewarding, responsible volunteer position and a valuable work experience for anyone considering working with children.

We offer:

  • Initial training about tutoring children on reading and writing.
  • Regular supervision and feedback from the literacy program coordinator
  • A valuable reference on completion of tutoring
